Born and raised in southeast Iowa, Jonathan spent the first 13 years of his professional career in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. There he spent 8 years working for a commercial studio, before accepting a position with a marketing firm on the east coast shooting for 7 catalogs over the next several years. When the time came he followed his roots back to Iowa and was thrilled to again accept a great role with the Meredith Corporation (Des Moines, IA) doing the system and color work for Fitness magazine and More magazine. (simply put Jonathan likes to say, “I just made pretty people, prettier”.) Working in the commercial field left the door wide open for Jonathan to build his own business in the what he calls the people business (portraits & weddings). Jonathan brings with him 18 years of commercial and portrait experience and has found his style in the mix of the two. Lines and symmetry of architecture, the detail and complex lighting of table top product, along with the posing and lighting of catalog models flows fluid with the once traditional side of seniors, weddings and family portraits. His education, professional career and extensive life experience in the field of photography, is what makes Mullica Studio, the photography studio of choice for many brides, graduating high school seniors, and businesses in the Des Moines market.
